After a stellar season, one in which the Cleburne won 29 of 35 games, a trio of Yellow Jackets have earned all-state honors from the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Seniors Robert Young and Nathan Hood, along with sophomore Colby Braddock, were selected to the squad, as voted on by members of the THSBCA.

Young, a lefthander who went 12-1 in 2006, was named to the squad’s first-team, joining players like Highland Park’s Clayton Kershaw and Chase Anderson of Wichita Falls Rider.

Young, who pitched two innings of no-hit baseball in last weekend’s THSBCA All-Star Game, sported an earned run average of 0.63 in 2006, while being named Pitcher of the Year on both the District 6-4A and Westhill Construction All-County teams.

In addition to his work on the mound, Young, who finished the year with 111 strikeouts, was solid on offense with a batting average of .358.

Hood, the Most Valuable Player on both the District 6-4A and Westhill Construction All-County teams, garnered second-team all-state recognition.

Hood was one of six shortstops honored on the team, as he had six homers, 36 RBIs and 50 runs scored in 2006. In three years with the Jackets, Hood had 112 hits.

For the 2006 campaign, Hood batted .475, just a few months after recovering from shoulder surgery.

Braddock, a sophomore catcher, stepped into the lineup not long after the completion of basketball season and never let up.

Despite floating around the batting order, Braddock batted .381, including a homer early in the season against Fort Worth All-Saints in the Austin Pokluda Memorial Tournament.

Braddock was selected first-team all-district at catcher and was named the Newcomer of the Year on the Westhill Construction All-County team recently.

Two other players from District 6-4A earned all-state recognition as Caden Crawford of Mineral Wells was a first-team first baseman, while Logan Armstrong of Brewer was named second-team all-state as a catcher.
