GODLEY — The Godley Wildcats stayed undefeated in District 11-4A play with a 14-4 win in five innings Tuesday at Life Waxahachie.
The Wildcats actually found themselves trailing 2-0 after two innings before erupting for 11 runs in the top of the third inning to take control.
Godley sent 17 batters to the plate in the third inning, a frame that included a pair of homers, highlighted by a grand slam home run by Kole Allen for an 8-2 lead.
Ryan Block also hit a two-run home run in the third inning as part of a huge day for Block, who went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, two homers and two runs. Block hit a leadoff home run in the top of the fifth to extend Godley’s lead to 13-3.
Six different Wildcats recorded at least one RBI: Allen (4), Block (4), Landry McKittrick (2), Owen Roever (1), Issac Paniagua (1) and Trevor Smith (1).
Hunter Lewis got the win for the ‘Cats after allowing three hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts.
Godley (16-7) is scheduled to visit Boswell at 6 p.m. Saturday in a non-district meeting before resuming league play at 7:30 p.m. April 13 at Alvarado.
Lady Cats demolish Life Waxahachie
The Godley Lady Cats scored five runs in the top of the first inning and didn’t let up in a 27-7 win in five innings Tuesday at Life Waxahachie.
After Godley’s five-run first, the Lady Mustangs scored two in the home half before the Lady Cats erupted for 11 runs in the third inning to blow the game open. Godley plated four more runs in the fourth and then put up seven runs in the fifth en route to the run-rule win.
Godley matched its 27-run day with 27 base hits. Four different players recorded four-hit days: Kenzie Stotts went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, three steals and two runs, Cadence Chambliess was 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs, Carrie Ford had a monster game with a 4-for-5, six-RBI day, and Tatem Bullard finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs.
Alyssa Jimenez went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs while Brittany Roark was 2-for-2 with two runs for the Lady Cats.
Chambliess pitched five innings with five hits and two runs allowed with four strikeouts while Bullard tossed the final two innings.
The Lady Cats improved to 2-2 in District 11-4A play, one game behind Venus and Alvarado for first, while Life Waxahachie dropped to 0-4.
Godley is scheduled to visit Alvarado at 7 p.m. April 13.
