With only a week remaining in the 2019 Texas high school volleyball regular season, playoff dreams have already been crushed, realized or are going down to the wire.
In District 14-5A, the four playoff berths have already been secured even with three more matches remaining.
Red Oak (9-0) is two games clear for first place while Midlothian (7-2) and Joshua (7-3) are battling it out for second place. Ennis, at 5-4, has already secured the fourth and final playoff berth while Waco University (2-8), Corsicana (1-8) and Cleburne (1-8) have been eliminated.
In District 5-5A, the Burleson Lady Elks are trying to defend their district title but have a match to make up with three remaining.
Entering play Tuesday, the Lady Elks (10-1) trail Granbury (11-0) by one match for first place. Granbury beat Burleson, 3-2, on Oct. 1. The Lady Elks will try to equalize the season series Friday in Burleson.
Mansfield Legacy has a strong hold of third place at 7-4, while Burleson Centennial, Crowley and Everman, all at 5-6, are battling for the fourth playoff berth.
In District 7-4A, Godley clinched a playoff berth with a three-set win over Mineral Wells on Friday, but the Lady Cats are in a tight battle for playoff positioning.
Stephenville leads 7-4A at 6-0, but the Lady Cats (3-3) are a half game behind Brownwood (3-2) for second place. Godley and Brownwood play at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a pivotal showdown for playoff seeding. Glen Rose is fourth at 2-4.
In District 17-3A, West (11-0) and Maypearl (9-2) have secured playoff berths while Whitney (7-4) is a win away from clinching a postseason spot.
At 6-5, Rio Vista holds fourth place entering play Tuesday by one match over Grandview (5-6). The Lady Eagles hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Grandview by virtue of a 2-0 record in league play.
Rio Vista holds the inside track for a playoff spot, not only by one game ahead in the standings and owning the tiebreaker, but the Lady Eagles have the friendlier remaining schedule with Waco HSI, Clifton and Keene remaining. Grandview has Clifton, Waco HSI and West left.
Keene (3-8), Clifton (3-8) and Waco HSI (0-11) have already been eliminated from postseason contention.
