WACO — The 2019-20 season came to an end for the Grandview Lady Zebras in a hard-fought 41-40 loss Friday to Little River Academy in a Class 3A Region III area playoff game at University High School.

Grandview held just one lead in the entire second half when Nora Williamson hit a go-ahead jumper with 24 seconds left for a 40-39 lead, but Little River Academy quickly answered on the other end with a bucket for a 41-40 advantage with 15 seconds left that proved to be the game-winner.

Grandview was called for an illegal screen on the ensuing possession, but the Lady Zebras got one more chance as Little River Academy turned it over with 7.2 seconds left. However, Grandview was unable to get a clean look off before time expired as the Lady Zebras' season ends in the area playoffs.

The Lady Bees (21-12) were in control for much of the game as Grandview held just three leads all night — 3-2, 14-12, and 40-39.

With 1:29 left, it appeared to be a stress-free win for Little River Academy, which held a 38-32 lead. But Grandview junior Brooklyn Prater scored six straight points for the Lady Zebras in a 6-1 run that made it 39-38 with 59 seconds remaining.

Prater led Grandview with 12 points, with eight of those coming in the fourth quarter. Senior Maddie Metzler had nine points and junior Kylie Mahanay added eight points.

In Coach Tyler Adams' first year at the helm of Lady Zebra basketball, he guided them to a 29-win season and a District 17-3A championship as well as a bi-district title.

The Lady Zebras will lose just one senior, Metzler, to graduation as Grandview will reload for another run in 2020-21.

Little River Academy will face Malakoff in the Class 3A regional quarterfinals next week.
