Senior transfer Becky Smith notched the only goal of the game for the Cleburne Lady Jackets as they defeated Pleasanton Lady Eagles, 1-0, in the fourth annual Brother’s Cup on Friday.

With the victory, Cleburne improved to 1-6-0 on the season, winning its third straight Brother’s Cup, which features the Jackets’ Coby Bird coaching against his brother Brant Bird.

“It was just a great effort by our girls,” Coby Bird said.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Jackets managed the only goal of the match with about 18 minutes to go.

Smith rebounded the ball off the ricochet and beat the keeper for her first goal of the season.

The Lady Jacket defense, led by Kallie Maples and goalkeepers Brenna Martindale and Brittany Lawrence, prevented any scoring by the Lady Eagles, preserving the Cleburne win.

Cleburne took on Galveston Ball at 11 a.m. in the Brother’s Cup Tournament Challenge. Later in the day, Cleburne faced Antonian in its third match of the event.

The Lady Jackets host Joshua at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the District 12-4A opener for both teams.
