The Lady Jackets struggled offensively in a 44-31 loss to V.R. Eaton on Monday afternoon as Cleburne dropped its fifth consecutive game.
The Lady Jackets (2-5) shot 24 percent from the floor by game’s end, but kept things close until Eaton pulled away down the stretch.
A free throw by Zoe Wilson tied the game at 20-20 with 1:30 left until halftime but the Lady Eagles ended the game on a 24-11 run from there. A free throw by Eaton gave the Lady Eagles a 21-20 halftime lead, then they outscored Cleburne, 10-5, in the third quarter to take a 31-25 lead into the fourth. An 8-2 Eaton run to open the fourth put the game out of reach for Cleburne.
Only four players scored for Cleburne. Karman Wright netted a game-high 18 points while Zoe Wilson added seven points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and a couple of assists and steals. The rest of the Lady Jackets combined to shoot 3-for-22.
Eaton shot 41 percent from the floor and out-rebounded Cleburne, 33-29.
The Lady Jackets will try to end their losing skid at noon today at Byron Nelson. Cleburne’s next game after Thanksgiving is a 6:30 p.m. tipoff on Nov. 30 when the Lady Jackets host Granbury.
