WEST — The Grandview Zebras continued their quest for an undefeated regular season with a convincing 58-14 win Friday at West.
Grandview senior quarterback Dane Jentsch accounted for six touchdowns to help the No. 2-ranked Zebras improve to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in District 7-3A Division I play.
Jentsch headed up an offensive explosion as the Zebras compiled 572 yards of total offense while Grandview's defense held the Trojans' offense to 193 yards from scrimmage and 11 first downs on the night.
Jentsch completed 24-of-28 passes for 337 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions to go along with 68 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries. Grandview running back Gavin Leftwich rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries. And receiver Luke Ferguson hauled in four receptions for 90 yards and three touchdowns.
Leftwich opened the scoring on a 46-yard run then Jentsch tossed a 19-yard touchdown pass to Luke Kirkpatrick for a 14-0 lead.
The Trojans responded on a 59-yard touchdown pass from Landon Edwards to a wide-open Wyatt Wolf as West cut the lead in half at 14-7 with 6:21 left in the opening quarter. But that was as close as the Trojans would get.
Early in the second quarter, Matt Lehnhardt was on the receiving end of a two-yard touchdown pass from Jentsch then Jentsch added a two-yard touchdown run to push the Zebras' lead to 28-7.
On Grandview's next possession, Jentsch had a 36-yard run then hit Ferguson for a 20-yard gain to set up Leftwich for a 19-yard touchdown run.
The Zebras weren't finished in the first half as Jentsch and Ferguson connected on a 38-yard touchdown pass.
On West's next drive, the Trojans moved backwards and a bad snap went through the back of the end zone, resulting in a safety and a 44-7 Zebra lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, West's Trey Janek scored on a three-yard run to make it a 30-point game.
Jentsch threw touchdown passes of 16 and 14 yards to Ferguson in the fourth quarter to produce the final tally.
Kason English added seven catches for 82 yards for the Zebras while Kirkpatrick finished with three catches for 36 yards and a score.
