Basketball results from around the county for Jan. 7:
The Grandview Lady Zebras beat Rio Vista, 59-21, Tuesday night to improve to 3-1 in District 17-3A play.
No. 17 Grandview left no doubt early as the Lady Zebras jumped out to a 26-5 lead by the end of the first quarter and held a 36-7 lead at halftime.
Brooklyn Prater scored 14 points to lead 10 Lady Zebras who etched their names in the scoring column. Hope Hudson added eight points while Emma Warren netted seven, with Nora Williamson and Kylie Mahanay each adding six points.
The Joshua Lady Owls beat Waco University, 61-38, Tuesday night to move to 3-1 in District 14-5A play.
The Burleson Centennial Lady Spartans claimed a 68-46 win over Granbury on Tuesday to improve to 3-1 in District 5-5A play.
The Alvarado Lady Indians captured a 50-31 victory Tuesday over Mineral Wells as Reagan Elmore led the way with 18 points.
The No. 10-ranked Burleson Centennial Spartans moved to 2-0 in District 5-5A play with a 77-63 win over Granbury on Tuesday.
The Spartans (19-4) won the first three quarters, including a 20-8 edge in the third, to hold off a late Granbury comeback.
Tayton Conerway led four Spartans in double figures with 25 points. Zach Bolf netted 19 points, Jacob Stuckey poured in 15 points, and Keryn Collins scored 11 points.
Up next for Centennial is a ranked showdown against No. 15 Mansfield Timberview at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
The No. 16-ranked Grandview Zebras had little trouble in a 99-39 win over Rio Vista on Tuesday.
Grandview held leads of 23-8 after the first quarter, 55-17 at halftime, and 78-26 after three to coast to the victory and improve to 2-0 in District 17-3A play.
Travis Massey and Braeden Lawson led the Zebras with 20 and 18 points, respectively, while Noah Patterson netted 14 while Luke Drollinger added 11 points. Jacob Patterson and Dametrious Crownover each scored eight points.
The Zebras (9-10) are set to visit Clifton at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The Alvarado Indians continued their impressive start to the season with a 54-51 win over No. 20 Krum.
The Indians improved to 19-4 on the season in a close game where Alvarado led throughout. Alvarado held leads of 14-10 after the opening 8 minutes, 24-21 at halftime and 34-31 after the third.
The Indians were led by Will Johnson’s 21 points, Jordan Caldwell’s 15 points, and Ka’Lon Johnson’s 11 points.
The Joshua Owls picked up a big-time 56-49 win Tuesday night over Waco University to improve to 1-1 in District 14-5A play.
The Burleson Elks fell to Mansfield Timberview, 81-65, Tuesday night despite Brennan Zeiner (22 points) and Derrick Alexander (20) combining for 42 points.
