Jordan Caldwell and the Alvarado Indians closed out the 2019-20 regular season with a couple of bold exclamation points, font size 72.

Alvarado beat Venus, 111-37, on Tuesday as the Indians tied a school record for points in a single game while also setting a school record for wins in a season with 29.

Caldwell had a record-setting night personally as he hit a school-record 11 3-pointers, including eight 3’s in the first quarter alone, to finish with 35 points.

In addition to Caldwell’s monster outing, five other Indians scored in double figures. Trent Keener and Will Johnson each scored 18 points. Ka’Lon Johnson had 12 points, Waylon Carillo netted 11 points, and Kobe Webb added 10 points.

Alvarado finished 8-2 in District 17-4A and will enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed behind district champ Waxahachie Life (9-1).

The Indians (29-6) will open the Class 4A playoffs with a bi-district showdown between either Lorena or China Spring.

Spartan seniors dominate on senior night

The District 5-5A champion Burleson Centennial Spartans finished the regular season out with a 74-68 win Tuesday over Arlington Seguin.

The No. 15-ranked Spartans enter the playoffs with a 28-6 overall record and 12-2 mark in district action, capturing their first-ever district championship.

In Tuesday’s win on senior night, it was Centennial’s seniors leading the way. Jacob Stuckey and Tayton Conerway each notched double-doubles in the win. Stuckey had 20 points and 14 rebounds while Conerway recorded 17 points and 12 boards. Zach Bolf scored 20 points with seven rebounds while Keryn Collins scored 13 points with four assists.

The Spartans will open the Class 5A playoffs with a bi-district battle against Fort Worth Southwest. Details were not set immediately.

Zebras win 30th straight game in district

The Grandview Zebras pulled off their second straight perfect run through District 17-3A play with an 84-51 win Tuesday over West.

It was the Zebras’ 30th consecutive win in district action and Grandview’s third district title in a row.

Grandview will play a warmup game at 7 p.m. Friday in Mexia.
