After a pair of hard-fought victories over West Mesquite and Pine Tree, the Cleburne Yellow Jackets are preparing for the Class 4A, Region II quarterfinal contest against No. 9 Lancaster.

The matchup is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night at Arlington Martin High School.

The Jackets (25-7) defeated West Mesquite, 41-33, in the bidistrict playoffs before edging Pine Tree, 49-46, in the area round on Friday night.

Lancaster, which won the District 15-4A championship, defeated Corsicana, 71-50, in the bidistrict round before handing Jacksonville a 79-71 defeat on Friday night in a second-round contest.

The winner of Wednesday night’s contest will advance to the Region II tournament, which is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Garland Special Events Center.

The Cleburne-Lancaster winner will play either No. 18 Highland Park or Sherman in the region semifinals.

That game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night at R.L. Turner High School in Carrollton.

Highland Park defeated top-ranked Dallas Carter 51-46 in the area round on Friday.

On the other half of the bracket are a pair of District 16-4A rivals, as Hewitt Midway and Waco University will meet in a quarterfinal matchup.

The other game on that half of the bracket features Lincoln facing Kimbal.

The state tournament is scheduled for March 12-14 at the Frank Erwin Center on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
