The Granbury Pirates recorded a 65-52 win over the Cleburne Yellow Jackets on Tuesday at Jeff D. Cody Gymnasium.

The Jackets (4-18) remain in search of that first elusive win in District 8-5A play after falling to 0-10 with the loss on Tuesday.

Cleburne trailed by just 7 points with 3 minutes left to play, but couldn’t cut it any closer despite having a couple of opportunities. The Jackets missed an open 3 and then committed a turnover on back-to-back possessions down by 7. From there, the Pirates were able to reclaim a double-digit lead and close the game with a win.

As has been the case all season for Cleburne, turnovers were a contributing factor in the loss as the Jackets turned it over 24 times.

Cleburne got off to a good start to the game, opening on a 7-0 run in the first couple of minutes. But the Pirates used a 13-0 run to take a 13-7 lead. Granbury extended that run to 23-4 to build a 23-11 lead midway through the second quarter.

Granbury held a 12-point edge at halftime, 30-18, and the Pirates led after the third quarter, 47-36.

Blake Bryson led Cleburne in scoring with 16 points.

Cleburne will go for that first district win at 8 p.m. Friday against Everman at Jeff D. Cody Gymnasium.

The junior varsity Yellow Jackets prevailed over Granbury on Tuesday, 58-42.

Jordan Gann led Cleburne’s JV with 16 points.
