The 2019-20 season got off to a rough start for the Cleburne Yellow Jackets in a 66-26 loss Tuesday to Everman at Jeff D. Cody Arena.
Everman (1-0) dominated every statistical category to pull away from Cleburne (0-1) in every quarter.
The Bulldogs doubled up Cleburne, 12-6, after the first quarter then built a 20-point lead by halftime at 30-10. The lead expanded to 46-18 at the end of three.
Not only did Everman out-shoot Cleburne percentage-wise, 43.5 to 31, but the Bulldogs had 62 shot attempts compared to Cleburne’s 35.
Cleburne turned the ball over 19 times compared to Everman’s 10, and the Bulldogs out-rebounded the Jackets, 41-15, including 22 offensive boards.
Cleburne shot 11-of-16 from two-point territory but the Jackets were 0-for-19 from 3.
With the game tied at 4-4 early, Everman went on a 22-4 run to take command of the game.
Cleburne was led by senior Nash Mosoba, who scored 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting as the only Jacket with more than four points. Isaak Cunningham added four points off the bench as the only other player with more than two points.
The Jackets, in year No. 1 under head coach Jeff Bush, will try to take a few steps forward at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Boswell.
