The end of another school year brings summer break, and with the summer break, plenty of free time for kids. Cleburne High School will be offering sports camps throughout the summer, beginning next week.
The Cleburne Yellow Jacket baseball camp will be held Tuesday through Thursday at Yellow Jacket Field. The camp will be instructed by the Cleburne varsity coaching staff of Ross Taylor, Ryan Stepp, Brent Burton and Colby Braddock.
The camp session for incoming third through fifth graders is 10 a.m. to noon while camp session for incoming sixth through ninth graders will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Camp cost is $75 and includes a T-shirt.
The Cleburne Lady Jacket volleyball camp will also be in action Tuesday through Thursday next week.
The volleyball camp, held at Wheat Middle School, is broke up into two age groups: incoming third through fifth graders go from 9 to 11 a.m. while incoming sixth through ninth graders go from 1 to 3 p.m.
Skills taught include serving, forearm passing, defense, attacking, basic rules and team play. There will also be competition for the older group. Camp cost is $60 and includes a T-shirt.
The Cleburne Yellow Jacket football camp is scheduled for June 4-6 at the CHS turf field.
The Jacket football camp is for incoming first through eighth graders and will be held from 10 a.m. to noon.
The camp will be instructed by the Cleburne high school and junior high coaches, including Head Coach Casey Walraven and Defensive Coordinator Jason Payne.
The camp will be formatted for skill development including but not limited to: position-specific agility and technique, ball skills (passing, receiving and running), 7-on-7, general football rules and knowledge, proper technique, and proper tackling technique to ensure player safety.
Campers need to wear athletic attire and cleats. Water will be provided. Sunscreen is recommended. Camp cost is $40 and includes a T-shirt.
Also on June 4-6 will be the Cleburne Lady Jacket basketball camp at Smith Middle School.
The Lady Jacket hoops camp will be divided into two age groups. Incoming first through sixth graders is scheduled for 8 to 11 a.m. while incoming seventh through ninth graders will go from 1 to 4 p.m.
Cost is $65 and includes a T-shirt and photo. Drills will focus on ball handling, shooting, rebounding, footwork and fundamental defense.
The Cleburne Yellow Jacket boys basketball camp is scheduled for June 10-12 at Smith Middle School.
The boys hoops camp is divided into two age groups: incoming first through sixth graders will hoop it up from 8 to 11 a.m. while incoming seventh through ninth graders will go to work from 1 to 4 p.m.
Camp cost is $65 and includes a T-shirt. The camp will include team building exercises, competitive drills and games, and live one-on-one and five-on-five games.
The Cleburne Lady Jacket softball camp is set for July 9-11 at the CHS softball field
The softball camp is for incoming first through ninth graders and will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. under the direction of Cleburne Softball Coach Paul Chavez.
Early registration price is $50 and ends June 10. Camp cost after early registration is $60. Cost includes T-shirt.
Cleburne High School will also hold four tennis camps during the summer.
There are four different tennis camp sessions available: June 17-20, June 24-27, July 8-11 and July 15-18.
A beginner/intermediate camp for incoming third through fifth graders will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. those days. A beginner/intermediate camp for incoming sixth through eighth graders will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. And an advanced camp for incoming eighth through 12th graders will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. those days.
Cost for the two younger camps is $25 per session while the high school camp is $35 per session.
Friday will be a bad weather make-up day for all camps, if needed. All campers need to wear tennis shoes and bring water and a racquet.
