Kameron Webb (22) rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns to help the Alvarado Indians get off to a 1-0 start in district play.

ALVARADO — After going winless in District 5-4A Division I play a year ago, the Alvarado Indians kicked off district action this year with a 35-14 win Friday over Waxahachie Life for a 1-0 start in league play.

Alvarado racked up 332 rushing yards behind the dynamic duo of Kameron Webb and Jayden Bridgewater to improve to 2-4 overall.

Bridgewater opened the scoring on a three-yard run for a 7-0 lead with 8:04 left in the first quarter.

The Mustangs knotted things up on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Colby Grmela to Kaden Mayfield with 4:50 left in the opening quarter.

On the first play of the second quarter, Alvarado went back in front on a 29-yard touchdown pass from West Conner to Logan McDaniel for a 14-7 lead. Late in the first half, Webb gave Alvarado a 21-7 lead when he broke one from 44 yards out.

Midway through the third quarter, Alvarado started to pull away when Webb scored his second touchdown of the night, this one from 27 yards out, for a 28-7 lead.

Waxahachie Life cut the deficit in half early in the fourth quarter on a 16-yard pass from Grmela to Dreylon DeQuire but the Indians closed out the win with a four-yard touchdown run by Bridgewater with 2:26 left.

Webb finished with 205 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries while Bridgewater had 114 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. McDaniel had all three of Alvarado's receptions for 60 yards and a score.

Kaden Ford added an interception for the Indians on defense.

Alvarado will travel to undefeated Stephenville (6-0, 1-0) in week 8 action. The Yellowjackets opened district play with a 35-0 win at Waco La Vega.
