The first leg of Cleburne’s three-game district road swing was a success.

Now, it’s on to Stephenville.

The Jackets (15-12, 4-1) will venture about an hour to the west today for an 8 p.m. District 6-4A contest against the Yellowjackets (9-15, 3-2).

Cleburne is coming off a 55-44 road win over the Brewer Bears, while Stephenville dropped a 52-49 decision at district-leading Mineral Wells.

The two teams played each other in Cleburne about two weeks ago, with the Jackets holding off Stephenville for a 39-36 victory.

In the contest, Stephenville led by four points late in the fourth quarter, only to see Cleburne senior Jacob Kelsey seal the deal in the final 2:42 with four free throws and a three-pointer.

In the contest, Kelsey finished with 17 points, which included a pair of three-point baskets. For the district season, Kelsey is averaging 17.2 points per game and has connected on nearly 50 percent of the three-point shot attempts.

Expected to join Kelsey in the starting lineup for the Jackets are senior Chance Rosser, senior Brett Hamilton, senior Brent Kiel and junior Field Reagan.

Reagan is coming off one of his best games as he scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds against Brewer.

Rosser is a dead-eye shooter from three-point range, while Kiel and Hamilton are solid from both the outside and low post.

Coming off the bench for Cleburne are Nick Passalugo, Cameron Lehrmann, Dustin West, Ethan Anderson, Shea McLean and Caleb Amis.

Passalugo, Lehrmann, West and McLean have all started at one point this season, while Anderson, a freshman, has seen increased minutes since being moved to the varsity team a couple of weeks ago.

As for Stephenville, the Yellowjackets had won three straight games before losing to Mineral Wells on Friday.

In the contest against the district-leading Rams, Ryan Black and Trey Taylor did the majority of the damage offensively for the Yellowjackets.

Black led Stephenville with 18 points, while Taylor notched 15 points.

Other key players for Stephenville include Cody Davis, Jared Mills, Josh Millet, Jacob Harwell and Colby Reeves.
