Letter to the editor

Dear Editor,

Please remember as you enjoy your day off Monday, May 31 that the day is a legal holiday to pay homage to the men and women that have given their lives for our freedoms and our way of life. It is because of their ultimate sacrifice that we are free to enjoy this day as we choose.

The American Legion Family 50 of Cleburne hopes you choose to join the ceremony in the Cleburne Memorial Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Monday or the second program at 2 p.m. at the Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum but however you choose to spend your day, please share with your children and grandchildren why this day is important.

Please take the time to pause and give thanks for the sacrifices of the deceased military and their families. Please pause and reflect on how very different our lives might me today if these brave men and women had not chosen to fight for their country. Wear a poppy as mute evidence of your gratitude as you honor them.

The American Legion C. E. DeLario Post 50 has been here in Cleburne for 100 years serving our veterans, our military and their families and our community. The American Legion Auxiliary is also recognizing 102 years in November as the largest patriotic women’s organization in the world. We invite qualifying individuals to join and help us in these efforts. Most veterans and family members qualify for membership in The American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary or the Sons of the American Legion.

We wish each reader a meaningful Memorial Day and thank you for your devotion and support to our veterans and our military.

For God and Country,

Alan Buckles,

Post 50 Commander

Nelda Grande,

Unit 50 President

Jerry Landers,

Squadron 50 Commander
