A Washington man died May 23 after being struck by a pickup. The accident occurred about 9:36 a.m. in the 4700 block of Farm-to-Market Road 4.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s website lists the victim as Maultin Elmer Mathias, 70, of Lakewood, Washington.
Mathias was off the roadway near a fence line when he was struck. Officials believe he may have been geocaching.
Mathias was transported to a Fort Worth hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It appears that the driver of a GMC pickup traveling southeast on FM 4 left the road for unknown reasons, over corrected and lost control striking Mathias in the process. The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
An ambulance transported the driver to an area hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
