Democratic candidate Chrysta Castaneda, who is running for a seat on the Texas Railroad Commission, will speak at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the JN Long Cultural Arts Center, 425 Granbury St. in Cleburne. Admission is free.
The Johnson County Democratic Party is hosting the event. Castaneda will face the Republican incumbent, Railroad Commissioner Ryan Sitton, in November’s general election.
Castaneda earned a degree in industrial engineering from Kansas State University and a law degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law.
In 2016, in a drilling rights dispute, Castaneda won a $146 million verdict in a case in which she represented late Dallas businessman T. Boone Pickens.
Castaneda serves as a board member of the Texas Women’s Foundation and previously served as board chair of Ignite Texas.
