Cleburne High School varsity cheerleaders picketed across the street from the school early Monday with shouts of “Don’t hate, reinstate” and “Unfair punishment. Bring back the cheerleaders.” About 20 students and parents joined in as the cheerleaders protested their expulsion from the squad following a Jan. 13 basketball game in which they left the floor to cheer from the stands. Parents and cheerleaders involved said the punishment was too severe and they plan to protest daily and petition the school board. CHS cheerleading sponsor Kara Mead, who watched the demonstration from school grounds, said the CHS Cheerleading Constitution, which all the girls signed, prohibits insubordination and failure to attend games. Cheerleaders pictured from right to left are Whittany Braswell, Candy Sweet and Brittany Braswell.
