Mayor Scott Cain is the featured lay speaker at Friday’s 7 a.m. Holy Week service at the Cleburne Conference Center, concluding the 37th consecutive year of community worship sponsored annually by the Cleburne Christian Business Club.

The choirs of Field Street Baptist Church and First Baptist Church will provide the special music and Dr. Robert Riza, Cleburne Christian Business Club president, will serve as Host of the Day.

The invocation will be led by Dr. Gary Temple and Mike Lehrmann will give the benediction. Joan Hinds and Sharon James will serve as fellowship team leaders.

The 2012-13 Christian Business Club officers, which includes Vice President Bobby de la Garza, Secretary Carol Cooper and Treasurer Don Davis, will be recognized at Friday’s service. The incoming slate of officers will be introduced.

Also being recognized are employees of the Cleburne campus of Hill College, the Downtown Cleburne Association, Operation Blessing and members of First Baptist Church, Cleburne Seventh-day Adventist Church, Field Street Baptist and Westhill Church of Christ.

Cain’s Good Friday message is “Evidence That Demands a Verdict” and will be taken from I Corinthians 15:3-19. In addition to his Juris Doctorate from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical studies from Criswell College, where he studied systematic theology and Greek, Hebrew and Christian history.

Through the years Cain has served as an associate pastor in several Baptist churches and has led numerous adult and youth Bible study classes as an active member of Field Street Baptist, where he attends with his wife, Chris, and their children.

In 2001, he opened a law practice in Cleburne. He has served as the city’s mayor since 2012.

The Cleburne Christian Business Club, which is also a co-sponsor of the annual Christian Leadership Prayer Breakfast, meets at 7 a.m. the first Monday of each month at the Cleburne Conference Center.
