The Cleburne Housing Department and the Office of Inspector General in Arlington are asking residents to help detect rental fraud.

Both agencies encourage anyone with knowledge of individuals receiving rental assistance who have provided false information to the Cleburne Housing Department to report it.

CHD administers the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funded Housing Choice Voucher Program, known as Section 8.

CHD has been working with HUD and OIG agents to investigate suspected individuals committing fraud, waste or abuse within HUD programs, said Sallie Watson, CHD housing manager.

Those investigations led to six indictments in April stemming from crimes that led to thousands of dollars in overpayment amounts to renters receiving assistance, she said.

Grand jurors indicted Deondrea Lynette Chappell, Gabrielle Yvette Fuller, Johnna Jill Gardner, Terrence Scott Griggs, Kelly Renee Hart and Mary Elizabeth Ramirez, all of Cleburne, on charges of securing execution of a document by deception: .

The OIG’s office will continue to collaborate efforts with the city of Cleburne Housing Dept. and other housing authorities that fall victim to fraud, said representatives from the office.

Residents with information about housing fraud are encouraged to report such information to CHD at 418 W. Henderson St., or call 817-645-0937 or 817-645-0939.

Violations may also be reported directly to OIG at 800-347-3735.

Information may also be faxed to 202-708-4829 or e-mailed to
