A man suspected of sexually assaulting a 26-year-old woman at a Burleson rest area on Nov. 27 was arraigned last night by a Burleson municipal judge on charges of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated robbery.

Anthony Yates, 22, of Joshua was arrested Wednesday night in retail store parking lot on Wilshire Boulevard

The Burleson Police Department had issued a press release and a composite sketch of the suspect early Wednesday afternoon. After the story and sketch aired on Metroplex TV stations, the police department received an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip identifying the suspect.

Police were able to track Yates down to the retail parking lot, where the suspect was standing outside smoking a cigarette.

Patrol officers and detectives took the suspect into custody. Yates refused to talk to detectives about the rest stop assault.

Yates has been transported to the Johnson County Corrections Center in Cleburne. His bonds have been set at $175,000 and $150,000 for the aggravated sexual assault and the aggravated robbery.

The Burleson Police Department case will be filed with the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office.

The victim had been driving through Burleson and stopped at a rest area between 12:30 and 12:45 a.m. along Interstate 35W in southern Burleson.

Police said the victim stopped to use the restroom facilities at the rest area and was alone in her vehicle.

She was leaving the bathroom stall when she was confronted by the suspect. The suspect displayed a knife and sexually assaulted the woman in the restroom.

The suspect walked the victim to her vehicle and demanded money.

The suspect left with the woman’s personal property.

The suspect was last seen walking southeast, toward a tree line.
