Dozens of local motorcyclists are gathering together Sunday to deliver boxes of LEGOS to Westhill Church of Christ in honor of Brody Nelson.
Brody, 10, of Cleburne passed away Aug. 23 after a year and a half long battle with brain cancer.
It was while Brody was undergoing radiation treatments at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis when he decided to start LEGOS for Little Warriors by asking residents to donate the toy for children who were in similar situations.
His sister, Emily, is now in charge of the initiative.
When Brody passed away and his family asked residents to donate LEGOS, Jeffrey Brown of Cleburne said he and several of his friends wanted to do something to help.
Brown and other motorcycle club members raise money and participate in bike runs for all kinds of causes throughout the year, he said, so this was right up their alley.
“[Children] need something to do while they’re in the hospital,” he said. “Brody was doing it, so it’s pretty much helping him and his family out.”
Residents will meet at 11 a.m. in the Burleson Walmart parking lot. The route will be follow Texas 174 and at Westhill Church of Christ, 1100 W. Westhill Drive. Officers from Burleson, Joshua and Cleburne will assist with traffic control.
There will also be green flags available for residents to attach to their motorcycles, which was Brody’s favorite color.
Brody's mom, Courtney Nelson, said they are honored that people who didn't know Brody would take an afternoon to drive all the way to Cleburne to deliver LEGOs so Emily can keep the initiative going.
