Joshua is now looking for a new city secretary.

After going into executive session during the Oct. 17 meeting to review the evaluation performance for City Secretary Lisa Cabrera, the Joshua City Council voted to terminate her from her position.

Cabrera has been in her position since February 2016 after Jeanne Heard accepted a position with the city of Mansfield. Cabrera was the city planner for Forrest Hill for eight years prior to that.

City Manager Josh Jones said Friday morning that according to the city’s charter, the council has the authority to appoint/terminate the secretary.

He said he has no comment on the decision.

He’s interviewed a couple of people who he thinks would be qualified for the open position.

“I’m hoping to have someone to recommend to the council soon,” he said. “I'm hoping to have two to three applicants to recommend to the council at next month’s meeting on Nov. 21.”

If the council doesn’t make a decision during the Nov. 21 meeting, Jones said they may call a special meeting or continue the discussions in the December meeting.
