Mikala Grady of Grandview 4-H walked away from the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo last week with another big win.

Rocco, the 1,388-pound European crossbred steer, won grand champion steer at the stock show.

Rocco did everything he was suppose to during the show and was well-behaved, but Grady said sometimes that wasn’t always the case. Sometimes he gave Grady a hard time the past year as she trained him.

Every morning, Grady said she rinsed Rocco’s coat and also washed him about two times a week. Tending to the animals before she ate breakfast and dinner was always her first priority.

“I think I’ve been successful because my parents have been a great support system to me,” Grady said.

Grady said there are many people who help her out to prepare for the shows.

“I was really nervous,” Grady said about participating in the FWSSR. “[Rocco] kept me on my toes.”

Grady’s dad, Brad Grady, said they thought Rocco was going to win grand champion steer and hoped the judge would also see it that way.

He said the Women Steering Business and Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price bought Rocco for $240,000.

“We’re grateful that they bought the steer,” he said.

Mikala Grady said she wants to use her winnings to pay for college. The hope is to attend Texas A&M University and become a veterinarian.
