A recent Godley High School graduate was killed and his sister injured in an ATV accident on Sunday.
Payton Herman, 18, was life flighted from Granbury, where the accident occurred, to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where he spent two days in the ICU before he passed, according to a GoFundMe set up by his aunt.
“This is a very sudden and heartbreaking tragedy that will leave the family with a lot of medical bills,” Holly Birmingham said. “Thank you for your donation and please continue to pray for God’s peace and comfort to help us through this difficult time.”
Herman’s sister, Caitlin, was also in the accident and has undergone two surgeries on her arm, with more to come, Birmingham said.
Herman’s mother, Monica, is a teacher at Godley Elementary School.
“We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of one of our 2021 Godley High School graduates, Payton Herman,” a post on Godley ISD’s Facebook page reads. “We are so thankful for the opportunity to have had Payton as part of our Wildcat family. While we know the entire Godley community is grieving this tragic loss, please keep the Herman family especially close in your thoughts and prayers during this time.”
A meal train has also been set up for the family, organized by Kelsey Bachhofer.
“Payton Herman was a promising young man, who had just graduated from Godley High School,” Bachofer said. “He was planning on attending Hill College as a member of their rodeo team. He will be missed and remembered by many. Please help us by praying for them and supporting with donations of food or contributions to our fund for medical expenses.”
Donations can be made in person or by mail through ACS Bank in Godley. Checks can be made out to “Herman Family Donations.” Contributions can also be made through Venmo to @herman-family-donations.
As of Wednesday morning, the GoFundMe had raised over $32,000 for the family.
