Johnson County Sheriff Bob Alford said 41-year-old Kristen “Sean” Madewell was apprehended Friday morning following a car chase in Crowley.
Madewell is suspected of shooting and killing 29-year-old Christopher Ortega in Fort Worth on Dec. 12. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s website lists Ortega’s cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds.
Fort Worth Police Department had been in pursuit of Madewell since Wednesday. He is described as being in the 260-270 pound range and was last seen wearing desert storm colored camo overalls.
The manhunt spilled over into Johnson County when he abandoned his truck between Godley and Cresson on Wednesday night. Madewell had a female companion with him who was apprehended after they abandoned the vehicle.
He then made his way to Cresson where he stole another truck and continued his run. The truck had a transponder, which aided police in their pursuit. Madewell abandoned the second vehicle and fled on foot. Johnson County Sheriff’s Office sent two separate dog teams after him. They tracked him to Deer Creek near Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South. There, the dogs lost their scent.
Joshua ISD schools were put on soft lockdown on Thursday because his children attend there. Godley ISD went into perimeter lockdown on Friday, according to a post on the district's website by Superintendent Rich Dear.
More information to come.
