Last summer, 42 dogs and 26 cats at the Cleburne Animal Shelter found their forever homes in a single day.

The shelter — and others across the county — participated in the Clear the Shelters campaign, a nationwide pet adoption initiative that aims to connect animals in need with loving new families.

This year, more than 60 North Texas animal shelters are participating in the campaign again on Saturday.

Cleburne Animal Services Manager Mindy Henry said all adoption fees will be waived at the Cleburne Animal Shelter from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

“Join us for the grooviest adoption event ever,” she said. “Del Norte Taco’s will have their taco truck on site and Shiver Shack will be serving the best shaved ice in Texas.”

In addition to all fees being waived on Clear the Shelters day, all animals will be spayed or neutered, current on all vaccinations, microchipped and dewormed.

All pets will also come with 30 days of pet insurance, over $200 worth of coupons for various pet services, coupons for a custom ID tag and more.

Burleson, Joshua and Alvarado shelters are also participating.

Last year, Burleson Marketing and Communications Director DeAnna Phillips said the Burleson Animal Shelter had 39 animals adopted.

“This exciting event brings cities, counties and nonprofit organizations across the country together on a single day to find homes for animals in need,” she said.

Though fees will be waived, donations of toys, food and kennels are welcomed.

Since 2015, 256,272 dogs and cats have been adopted through the campaign.
