A Cleburne man accepted a plea bargain on four sexual offenses involving a child in the 249th District Court in Glen Rose this week.

Benjamin Michael McCleary was arrested in 2017 on two counts involving two separate victims under the age of 17 an booked into the Somervell County Jail. His bond was set at $150,000 on each charge.

McCleary originally pleaded not guilty but was re-indicted earlier this month on five additional charges. During the jury selection process, McCleary changed his plea to guilty, according to the Stephenville Empire-Tribune.

As part of the deal, the prosecution dropped three of the charges.

For two counts of sexual assault of a child, McCleary was sentenced to six years in prison and was credited with 743 days served in the Somervell County Jail.

For two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact, McCleary received 10 years deferred adjudication and a $1,000 fine.

He also agreed to not have any contact “with victims or victims’ family,” in addition to registering as a sex offender.
