An Aug. 21 chase led to the arrest of a 37-year-old Alvarado man.

Cleburne police responded at 2:36 a.m. to reports of theft afoot at Walmart. The suspect fled southbound on Colonial Drive in a “small, silver passenger car” before police arrived.

Another officer spotted the car traveling eastbound in the 1600 block of Country Club Drive and noticed that the car had a defective license plate lamp. The officer followed. The car stopped in the 1200 block of Lindsey Lane then turned into a driveway and crashed into a closed garage.

Police arrested the driver, Melvin Norwood, for possession of a controlled substance, driving while license invalid with previous conviction and eight outstanding warrants.  Police added criminal mischief to Norwood’s charges after he allegedly kicked and damaged both rear doors of a patrol vehicle.

Cleburne police at about 11 a.m. Aug. 14 received word of a man driving a stolen truck heading Cleburne’s way. An attempted traffic stop failed to yield the desired result and the driver led police on a chase into Hill County. Police eventually stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver, Doyle Wayne Bingham, 29, of Godley, on charges of evading arrest with a vehicle and aggravated assault of a peace officer. Reports contain no details of the assault. 

Police responded at 6:32 p.m. Aug. 24 to a disturbance call in the 3200 block of Celeste Road. The victims told police they were assaulted and that the suspect fled to another apartment. Police knocked on the door of the apartment and heard a disturbance inside. They forced entry into the apartment and arrested Chance Owen Welty, 30, of Burleson on a charge of assault causing bodily injury.

Police responded to a disturbance call at 7:43 p.m. Aug. 9 in the 1700 block of West Henderson Street. The victim told police that the suspect, Lee Edward Wisnoski, 45, of Mena, choked and struck her. Police arrested Wisnoski on a charge of assault by impeding breath.

Police responded to a vandalism call at 9:54 a.m. Aug. 13 in the 1600 block of West Henderson Street. Someone damaged the door of the building.

Police responded to a theft call at 3:28 p.m. the same day in the 1100 block of North Main Street. A man fled the store with $1,800 worth of cellphones. 

Police responded to a traffic accident at 7:09 p.m. the same day in the 700 block of North Anglin Street. Someone crashed into a power pole. Reports list no cause for the crash or whether anyone was injured.

Police responded to a house burglary call at 11:45 a.m. Aug. 10 in the 400 block of East Willingham Street. Someone stole a 49-inch TV from the house. 

Police at 12:59 a.m. Aug. 16 responded to the 1500 block of Crestridge Drive on reports of “subjects standing in the shadows near a dumpster.”  They arrested Andrew Allen Gann, 42, of Alvarado, on a charge of failure to produce identification.

Police responded to a theft call at 11:28 a.m. Aug. 17 in the 600 block of West Henderson Street. Someone stole the victim’s smartphone. 

Police responded at 6:26 p.m. Aug. 19 to the 500 block of North Main Street. They arrested Jeffrey Paul Johnson, 33, of Euless, on charges of forge/alter prescription, tampering with government records and fraudulent possession of controlled substance.

Police responded to a burglary call at 9:53 a.m. Aug. 20 in the 300 block of West Westhill Drive. Someone burglarized a storage building. Reports do not list what was stolen. 

Police responded to a theft call at 5:54 a.m. July 26 in the 500 block of East Willingham Street. Someone stole a cellphone from the residence.

Police responded at 10:15 a.m. Aug. 21 to reports of a burglary in progress. They arrested Matthew Joseph Zielinski, 19, of Johnson County, on a charge of burglary of a building by forced entry and five outstanding warrants. 

Police responded at 5:27 p.m. Aug. 22 to the 2200 block of North Main Street on a warrant service. A woman at the scene refused to let officers in, according to reports. 

They arrested the woman, Emmaly Jimenez, 29, of Cleburne, on a charge of hindering apprehension. Police also arrested Anthony Lee Deming on the warrant. Reports list no age or city of residence for Deming.

Police responded to a theft call at 9:58 p.m. in the 1200 block of North Wilhite Street. Someone stole a window unit air conditioner. 

Police responded to a vehicle burglary call at 1:55 p.m. Aug. 24 in the 100 block of Madison Street. Someone stole miscellaneous items from the victim’s unlocked vehicle. Cleburne police remind residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables.

Police responded to a theft call at 2:11 p.m. Aug. 26 in the 600 block of East Chambers Street. Someone accessed the victim’s water meter.
