Kerr Middle School students, teachers and staff now have a new campus to call home.
Burleson ISD administrators, staff and community members held a dedication ceremony for the new campus on Wednesday night.
The district broke ground on the campus in May 2018, which is located at 1320 E. Hidden Creek Parkway. Voters passed an $85 million bond and tax ratification election in May 2017 to prepare the district for the growth expected over the next couple of years.
The old Kerr campus will be renovated to make improvements as bond funds are available and the district deems necessary.
BISD Superintendent Bret Jimerson recognized the Kerr family for attending the dedication ceremony and thanked them for their dedication to education in Burleson.
“Our new Kerr Middle School meets the education needs of our 1,100 students who attend and it built to accommodate our Burleson student population,” Jimerson said. “The design of this facility was intentional in functionality in a creative environment that inspire students and staff each day.”
Over 900 meals are served during breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria, he said, with students given access to the media center/library next to it.
He thanked a few groups for the construction of the facility: the BISD board of trustees, Facilities Advisory Committee, BISD administrators, City of Burleson, Stantec Architecture and Jackson Construction.
The Facilities Advisory Committee, BISD board President Andy Pickens said, worked hard to ensure they delivered a bond package that addressed student growth and maintain the district’s history.
“On behalf of the board of trustees, we greatly appreciate all those who helped bring this facility to the students and staff of Kerr Middle School,” Pickens said. “This facility is evidence of the value our community places on education and will benefit Burleson for generations.”
Kerr Principal Kalee McMullen said it has been a privilege to serve as the campus leader.
“I would like to thank our board of trustees, Dr. Jimerson and the Facilities Advisory Committee for your support in providing our students with this state-of-the-art facility,” McMullen said.
