In an effort to maximize the safety of the community and workforce during the spread of COVID-19, the Joshua Police Department will implement some operational changes.
These changes are intended to mitigate the virus’ impact while maintaining the department’s public safety responsibilities, Police Chief Shaun Short said on the department’s Facebook page.
It is important to note we aren’t amending our response to critical calls where life or safety is jeopardized, Short said.
The following are some changes implemented by the department:
• People reporting crime where there is not the need for an on-scene investigation will be contacted by an officer by phone for reporting purposes.
• We will continue to take reports in our lobby. However, if in-person contact is not required for a public safety purpose, you will be contacted by the officer via the lobby phone.
• Sex offender registration for both check-in and newly released offenders will require an appointment. The assigned investigator will evaluate the need for an in-person visit.
• We are suspecting public fingerprinting services.
Reports will continue to be available, but residents are encouraged to use the Texas Department of Transportation website for crash reports or you can email firstname.lastname@example.org for other police reports.
