Cleburne’s Lacy Stinebaugh signed to play volleyball at Cisco Junior College in Abilene on Friday at Cleburne High School.
Stinebaugh, a four-year letterman for the Lady Jackets, also received a full-ride scholarship from Cisco. She helped Cleburne reach the area round of the playoffs this year and the bidistrict round in her junior season.
In her sophomore season, Cleburne reached the bidistrict round of the postseason.
This season, under first-year head coach Sara Hinson, Stinebaugh was asked to serve time as the team’s libero after playing setter for the previous three years.
No problem, Stinebaugh said.
“I had played libero for two or three years in club, so I was comfortable with both,” she said. “I really think I can play both just as well so I didn’t think it was that difficult of a change.”
Stinebaugh is also a two-year letterman on the basketball team and has played that sport since her days with Little Dribblers in third grade.
She said she’s played volleyball since fifth grade, but decided to pursue volleyball at the collegiate level because she’s better at it.
“It’s always been a goal of mine to play sports in college,” she said. “Really to get to play any at that level is what I want to do since I like all sports. This is going to be just as exciting and it’s what I hoped would happen.”
Stinebaugh said she’s going to have to start from scratch to prove herself at Cisco, but added she’s up to the challenge.
“It can be hard because you’ll have to show again what you can do and what your abilities are,” she said. “You have to show a new person who you are and how you play. I don’t think it will be hard because I will be doing what I’ve been doing for a long time.”
