ForeWord Magazine recently named “Cleburne: A Graphic Novel” as its book of the year in the graphic novel category.
The book focuses on the last year in the life of Gen. Patrick Cleburne.
It chronicles Cleburne’s involvement in the American Civil War and his romance with a woman he never had the chance to marry.
The meat of the story involves Cleburne’s revolutionary proposal, at the time, to grant freedom to African Americans who agreed to enlist as soldiers and serve the Confederacy.
Florida author Justin Murphy wrote the story receiving assistance from inker Al Milgrom and colorist J. Brown.
Murphy visited Cleburne in January to discuss the book and sign copies at the Layland Museum and the Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum.
“Cleburne: A Graphic Novel,” sells for $24.95.
It is available at the Comic Boxx on 106 E. Henderson St. in downtown Cleburne.
Comic Boxx owners, Dennis and Jeannie Savell, said they plan to sell copies of the book during Springfest, which takes place in Cleburne on June 19-20.
“Cleburne: A Graphic Novel” is published by Rampart Press.
