Cell phone download sites
By Monica Green/features@trcle.com
Those who know me well know that I am never without my Blackberry. I just can’t help it. It’s so addicting.
Who would have ever thought that a cell phone could do so much? Internet, e-mail, texts, not to mention the phone itself — it’s got it all.
One of my favorite things to do to pass time is download things to my cell phone, such as ringtones and games. I have several sites I regularly visit for downloads. I’d like to share a few of my favorites with you.
Mobile41.com
This mobile site allows you to download themes, wallpapers and ringtones directly to your phone. It also has links to several other download sites.
Nextpimp.com
If you’re looking for a certain song, this is the place to go. Nextpimp also has a mobile site, bb.nextpimp.com, which is very user friendly. Simply search for whatever artist or song you want, and you will receive a list of available songs.
Zedge.net
This is by far my favorite site for ringtones. The mobile site, mobile.zedge.net, allows you to search and browse ringtones, videos, games, wallpapers and themes. Log onto the regular site on your computer, and you can create any of the above you want. They have theme, ringtone, voice, screensaver and wallpaper makers. All are possible by uploading MP3s or pictures you want to use. There is also a nice personalizer feature that allows you to create a wallpaper from your own pictures and add effects such as text and graphics.
Phonezoo.com
This Web site is undergoing changes and is in beta now. It has ringtones and photos. It also lets you create your own content. What’s different about this one is that it lets you record your voice to create your own ringtone. It is also more of a social site, and it allows you to have friends and talk to others through feeds. I like this one because when my media card was erased I was able to go back to the site, and it had a list of the ringtones I had downloaded. I simply clicked on the ringtones and sent them to my phone again. Phonezoo’s mobile site is m.phonezoo.com.
Mytinyphone.com
Mytinyphone is a great site to use if you have your computer and phone available at the same time. Like most other sites, you can search or browse for ringtones, wallpaper, themes and games. If you find one you like, you can send it to your phone using text or e-mail. I like inputing the code on the mobile site, wap.mytinyphone.com, and downloading it that way. Like Zedge, you can also create content on this site.
There are so many other sites out there for free downloads. These are just a few of my favorites. There are also some sites that charge a subscription fee. I prefer the free ones.
Another place to look for good downloads are phone forums or blogs. Because I use a Blackberry, most of the sites I access on a regular basis are tailored to BBs.
Pinstack.com
Pinstack is the first BB forum I ever joined. It is organized very well, with forums for each BB phone series, information about RIM, forums for each carrier and tons of downloads. It offers ringtones, games, wallpapers, third-party applications and RIM applications. If you ever have a question about your BB, Pinstack is the place to go. Do a simple search, and you’ll find your answer. Pinstack also has a store with any items you might need for your BB.
Crackberry.com
Crackberry is an all-access site. It has blogs with the latest news, a store with BB items, a forums site and tons of downloads. On the forums site, Crackberry isn’t as organized as Pinstack but has just as much to offer. It has a large supply of ringtones and wallpapers, with more added daily.
Berryreview.com
Berry Review is my favorite BB blog. It posts several times a day with the latest news on BBs. It also has a store with great applications and games, and tons of themes. The blog often will link you to other sites with games, themes, or anything else you might want.
