Southwestern Adventist University is the recent beneficiary of a seven-foot Steinway & Sons Concert Grand Piano (Model B). Siblings Kuk-Wha and Jea-Hyun Lee gifted the instrument along with a array of accessories including an artist bench and an embroidered cover.
Since the piano’s arrival in late November, several concerts and worship services have made use of the gift. The donors, both alumni of Southwestern, requested the piano be placed in Keene SDA Church where it will be available for both university and community concerts, vespers programs and church services.
Dr. Kuk-Wha Lee, class of 1988, and brother, Dr. Jea-Hyun Lee, class of 1993, were active participants in Southwestern’s Department of Music while they attended SWAU. They were also long-standing and talented members of the Keene Camerata.
The wonderful memories they share of their musical experiences in Keene prompted the exquisite gift, according to a press release.
The Steinway is dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. Chang H. Lee, their parents; Dr. and Mrs. Watson Chin and Mrs. June Bascom, former SWAU faculty; and Dr. Mugur Doroftei, conductor of Keene Camerata.
Dr. Kuk-Wha Lee is a member of the SWAU board of trustees. Both doctors reside and practice in southern California.
“We are incredibly grateful for this gift,” said Gary Temple, vice president of advancement. “We are growing the music department in many ways and the Steinway not only provides a higher quality for performances in the church but also helps set the tone for the excellence provided by our music department.
“The generosity of the Lee family ensures the continuing tradition of teaching and sharing beautiful music at Southwestern.”
