The Godley Wildcats advanced to the championship game against Nolan Catholic of their host holiday tournament on Monday with wins over Blooming Grove and Alvarado.
Godley (7-5) has won six of seven following a 1-4 start, and scored 143 points in the two victories.
The Wildcats first took down Blooming Grove, 75-47, before defeating upstart Alvarado, 68-54, in the tournament semifinals.
Ty Young (17) and Riley Good (16) led the Wildcats in scoring, and overcame 17 points from the Indians’ Broam Hart and 12 points from Casey Roberson.
The championship game will be at 3 p.m. in the main gym instead of 6 p.m. as originally scheduled due to the possibility of inclement weather moving in.
Alvarao (13-3) surpassed its win total from last season with a 57-45 opening round win over Fort Worth Southwest Christian.
James Kantner put up 21 for the Indians in that win, and Roberson finished with 11.
Alvarado head coach Kevin Starnes said a good record and a postseason trip are two different things.
“We’re doing some good things,” Starnes said. “You’re ultimately judged by if you make the playoffs. A good record is great, but it really doesn’t mean that much if you don’t make the playoffs.”
