Godley, Grandview lead 15-2A picks
The top two teams in District 15-2A, Godley and Grandview, were well represented on the 2009 all-district team selected by the coaches.
Rio Vista, which finished 1-9 in its first season under Craig Carpenter, was rewarded with three first team selections and five second team selections.
Godley, which finished 12-1 and lost to Pilot Point, 24-23, in the regional final netted five superlative awards, five first-team selections, and five second team selections.
Grandview, which finished 9-2 after losing to Caddo Mills, 21-14 in the area round of the Class 2A Division II playoffs took home two superlative awards, seven first-team selections and six second team selections.
The coach of the year in District 15-2A went to Godley head coach Randy Brawner.
The most valuable player of District 15-2A was Godley senior quarterback Riley Good, who topped 1,500 yards rushing and passed for more than 1,200 yards.
Godley’s junior running back, Landry Martinez, and Grandview running back Daniel Spencer were named the co-offensive players of the year.
Godley senior defensive end Jake Williams was named the district’s defensive player of the year after winning the award last season.
The lineman of the year award went to Grandview’s Nathan Chance and Godley’s Ryan Lidster.
The first-team offense was made up of Godley’s Taylor Williams, Ryan Clewis, David Hultin and Trevor Hamilton, who were the core of the Wildcats’ front line this season.
Joining them on the first-team offensive selections were Grandview’s Rodney Bosher, Maypearl’s Austin Weatherford and Taylor Deraleau, Dallas Life’s Robert Bailey, Godley’s Ty Young, Grandview’s Brant Rice, Maypearl’s Layne Compston and Conner Vaughan, Dallas Life’s John Morrison, Grandview’s Ian Speer and Derek Jarrell, Dallas Life’s Teverick Boyd and Malcolm Trail and Rio Vista’s Marshall Hicks and Cooper Ferguson.
The first-team defense was made up of Godley’s Clint Aylesworth, Colten Mitchell, Dylan Benge and Victor Cerna, Grandview’s Kyle Holt, Ian Speer and Rodney Bosher, Maypearl’s Rusty Hensel and Lucas Leal, Palmer’s Cody Graff and Rio Vista’s T.J. Justice.
The second-team offensive unit consisted of Grandview’s Cal Knowles, Davis Scarborough, Jacob Pannell and Kirk Waldrip, Maypearl’s Tyler Merenda, Dallas Life’s Keenan Roberts and Carvin Thompson, Rio Vista’s Travis Booty, Kenneth Dickerson and Aaron Rodrick, Godley’s Kolby Brown and Dylan Hightower and Palmer’s Allen Harden and Heath Koop.
The second-team defensive unit included Godley’s Casey Graham, Rhett Roden and Jacob Ramirez, Grandview’s Davis Scarborough and Craig Griscavage, Maypearl’s Javi Gonzales, Speer Lackey, Malcolm Watkins, Daniel Hernandez and Joe Jalapa, Palmer’s Christian Ramirez, Dallas Life’s Brian Jimenez and John McGlothin and Rio Vista’s Chaz Clinkscales and Thomas Johnston.
