The Cleburne Lady Jackets fell to 7-5 on the year on Saturday after concluding the DeSoto Lady Eagle Classic tournament with a 46-39 loss to The Colony.
The Lady Jackets led, 13-11, after one quarter of play and took a 24-17 lead into halftime before The Colony wrested away control of the game with a 16-5 third quarter.
Cleburne was unable to rally in the fourth quarter, and was outscored by The Colony, 13-10, in the final period.
Lady Jackets head coach Mitzi Marquart said her team was doing just about everything right in the first half.
“I thought we worked really hard on defense,” Marquart said. “We did a good job of controlling the boards, and we worked them hard, offensively.
“Defensively, we were just giving up one shot, and then getting the rebound.”
Marquart said the third quarter was the turning point in the game.
“We kind of came out standing around, and they came out attacking,” Marquart said. “We struggled scoring and we had some shots roll in and then roll out.
“We made a run to get within three points, but we just couldn’t finish it.”
After splitting wins and losses through four games in the tournament, Marquart said she was hoping Cleburne could come away with more wins than losses, but said she feels progress was still made.
“I hoped we could walk away 3-1,” Marquart said. “We really had our opportunities today and we played those two big games on that first day and it really took a lot out of us.
“It helped other players see they could step up and get in a little better shape.”
Jacqueline Chandler led the Lady Jackets in scoring in the loss with 14 points, and Aley Zachary had 10.
Danielle Carey finished with eight, Jessie Richardson had five and Jasmine Boston tallied two points.
Cleburne will take on North Mesquite at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at home.
The Lady Jackets will head out to play Irving MacArthur at 6 p.m. Friday on the road.
