Three area squads move on
Four Johnson County football teams entered the playoffs last week, and three will continue their respective journeys towards a state title on Friday.
Burleson was the lone area squad that had its season ended, as the Elks fell, 38-12, on Friday night at Cowboys Stadium against Arlington High.
The Godley Wildcats moved to 11-0 on the season after shutting out Troy, 34-0, on Thursday night at Waco ISD Stadium.
Godley limited the Trojans to less than 120 yards of total offense on the night, and quarterback Riley Good rushed for 222 yards on 29 carries for three touchdowns in the rout.
Grandview pulled away late for a 35-14 win over Crawford on Friday night at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville on the campus of Tarleton State University.
The Zebras will face Caddo Mills in the area round of the Class 2A Division II playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Longhorn Stadium in Cedar Hill.
Godley will play in its regional quarterfinal match against Winnsboro at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Midlothian ISD Stadium.
With a win, the Wildcats could potentially face No. 7 Pilot Point in the regional semifinals.
Alvarado smashed Fort Worth Castleberry, 63-0, at Bear Stadium in White Settlement on Friday in what was the Lions’ first playoff berth since 1995.
The Indians led, 30-0, at the half and forced four Castleberry turnovers in the victory.
Alvarado rushed for 338 yards in the victory.
The Indians are set for an area round rematch with defending Class 3A Division I state champion Prosper at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Gopher Bowl in Grand Prairie.
Last season, the Eagles knocked off the Indians, 29-14, in the area round on their way to the state championship.
