Area teams stay close to home
Most of Johnson County’s football teams will be close to home tonight as the season enters Week 9.
Alvarado battles Crandall at 7:30 p.m. at Charles Head Memorial Stadium with second place in District 12-3A on the line and a chance for the Indians to move over .500 on the year.
The Indians (4-4, 2-1) are looking to extend their winning streak after smashing Ferris, 34-10, on Friday.
Burleson is facing a must-win situation at home against Paschall if it wants to get back into the 3-5A playoff race.
The Elks are a game behind Weatherford (2-2 in 3-5A) and will face the Roos on the road to close out the regular season on Nov. 6.
Cleburne has its homecoming match against University at 7:30 p.m. and needs to pick up a win against the Trojans and on the road against Corsciana next week to solidify a playoff berth.
Godley is the only Johnson County team not at home this week as the Wildcats will play Dallas Life at Yellow Jacket Stadium in Ferris.
The No. 9 Wildcats are looking to move to 9-0 while the Lions are fighting for their playoff lives after falling, 37-27 to Maypearl last week.
Grandview is sitting pretty in second place in District 15-2A after a 37-7 win over Palmer last week and will take on 1-7 Rio Vista at 7:30 p.m. tonight within the confines of Zebra Stadium.
The Eagles (1-2 in 15-2A) will be back at Eagle Field on Nov. 6 to close out the regular season against Dallas Life.
No matter what happens tonight at Owl Stadium, one team is going to walk out of the stadium at the end of the night with its first 8-4A win.
Whether that will be Joshua (2-6, 0-5) or Granbury (0-8, 0-5) remains to be seen, but the Owls will try to rebound from a 74-26 loss to Everman last week.
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
