FORT WORTH — The Cleburne Yellow Jackets split a pair of summer league baseball games on Tuesday night at Arlington Heights High School, dropping the first game, 3-0, before rebounding for a 7-5 win in the nightcap.
The Jackets entered the bottom of the third facing a 3-1 deficit in Game 2, but Cleburne scored six runs in the frame to take a commanding 7-3 lead.
After a Scotty Diduch single, Ty Taylor reached base on a fielder’s choice and promptly stole second base.
Taylor scored on a double by German Hernandez to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Jose Martinez and Conner Marshall drew walks to load the bases and Cody Nolan tied the game with an RBI single.
Martinez came around to score the go-ahead run on a wild pitch and Max Reynolds walked to load the bases for Ben Boles.
Boles worked a 3-1 count before lining a shot to left field to clear the bases. Boles was tagged out trying to stretch the double into a triple for the final out of the inning.
Arlington Heights loaded the bases in the top of the sixth and scored a pair of runs on a single, but Marshall induced a double play groundout to end the contest.
The Jackets opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as Tanner Marshall singled to lead off the inning. After a balk moved him to second, Diduch laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Marshall to third.
Taylor singled to drive in the run.
Cleburne had runners on the corners, but Arlington Heights was able to catch the Jackets in a rundown and Taylor was tagged out at home.
Arlington Heights answered Cleburne’s tally with one run in the second and two in the third to take its 3-1 lead.
The Jackets’ offense didn’t have much success in Game 1 as the Arlington Heights pitchers kept them off balance in a 3-0 win.
Arlington Heights scored a run in the second inning and two in the fifth.
Cleburne mounted a threat in the second inning, but the Jackets were unable to execute a double steal and Taylor was tagged out at home to prevent the run from scoring.
The Jackets also had runners in scoring position in the third, sixth and seventh frames, but were unable to drive them in.
Boles singled to lead off the sixth and Diduch singled with one out. A fielder’s choice and a fly out ended the threat.
In the top of the seventh, Conner Marshall singled with one out and Nolan was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second.
Arlington Heights ended the contest with a fly out and a strikeout.
