The Cleburne Sports Complex hosted the Pony Elite State Championship tournament over the weekend, with several teams representing Cleburne.
Results of Sunday’s single-elimination championship tournament will appear in Tuesday’s edition.
In the 14-and-under division, the Cleburne Sheet Metal Reds split their two pool games on Friday night, defeating the Benbrook Blue Bombers, 11-2, before falling to the Burleson Baseball Club, 6-4.
The Burleson Baseball Club finished pool play with a 2-0 record, with its other win coming in a 9-8 victory over the Burleson Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks defeated Aledo Orange, 5-3, to enter Sunday’s championship round with a 1-1 record.
The Granbury Rough Riders and North Texas Nitro also won their two pool games.
The Nitro entered the championship tournament as the top seed, followed by the Rough Riders and the Burleson Baseball Club.
The Sheet Metal Reds entered Sunday’s action as the fifth seed out of 10 teams that advanced.
In the 13-and-under division, the Burleson Panthers and Grand Prairie Tarheels went 2-0 in pool play. Burleson earned an 8-0 win over the Saginaw Bulldogs and a 9-3 win over the Cowtown Outlaws.
Burleson was the top seed in Sunday’s tournament, with the Tarheels earning the second seed.
In the 12-and-under division, the Cleburne Jackets earned a pair of wins in pool play, defeating the Burleson Bobcats and the Benbrook Hawks by identical 11-1 scores.
The Bobcats also lost, 11-3, to the Crowley Nitro. The Burleson Raptors dropped their two games, 11-0 and 11-2, against the Weatherford Raiders and the Grand Prairie Bad Boyz, respectively.
The Jackets and the Texas Renegades each posted 2-0 marks in pool play, but the Jackets were the top seed.
In the 11-and-under division, the Burleson Lumberjacks split two pool games, falling to the Granbury Reds, 7-5, before rebounding to defeat the Fort Worth Panthers, 17-2.
Granbury won both of its pool games to enter Sunday as the top seed.
Because of its win in head-to-head play over the Panthers, Burleson was the second seed.
The Cleburne Jackets, Burleson Bad Boyz, Granbury Pirates and the Stampede each went 2-0 in pool play of the 10-and-under division.
Cleburne defeated the North Texas Shockers, 5-4, and the Aledo Crush, 11-1, while Burleson earned a 5-2 win over the Fort Worth Colts and a 7-5 win over the Cowtown Outlaws.
The Joshua Owls dropped both of their pool play games, losing 7-6 to the Stampede and 11-5 to the Keller Tribe.
The Jackets were the top seed in the tournament, while the Bad Boyz earned the second seed.
The Cleburne Legends split their two pool play games in the 9-and-under division, falling to the Fort Worth Reds, 9-6, before rebounding for an 8-7 victory over the Granbury Pirates.
The Burleson Warriors tied the Reds, 12-12, and fell to Keller Knights, 12-5.
The Legends claimed the fourth seed in Sunday’s tournament, while the Warriors entered as the fifth seed.
In the 8-and-under division, the Cleburne Jackets went 1-1 in pool play, edging the Burleson Bullets, 14-13, before falling to the Tri City Titans, 16-6.
The Bullets lost to the Granbury Pirates, 22-5, in their other pool play game.
The Burleson Young Guns went 1-1 in pool action, falling to the Pirates, 15-7, before handing the Burleson Elks a 23-5 loss. The Elks also lost to the Texas Regulators, 19-0.
The Young Guns were the fourth seed on Sunday, with the Jackets earning the fifth seed,
The Bullets and Elks were the seven and eight seeds, respectively.
The Dallas Patriots won both of their pool play games in the 7-and-under division, which didn’t include any local teams.
The Patriots entered Sunday’s tournament as the top seed.
