Owls complete offseason football practice with spring game
JOSHUA — The Joshua Owls finally got a chance to break in their new stadium with their annual spring game on Thursday.
All of the units participated in the scrimmage and Joshua head coach Jerry Bird said the team performed well in front of the hometown faithful on a bright May afternoon.
“I’m real happy with them,” Bird said. “I think we’ve come a long way from the first day. They’ve picked up the offensive and defensive schemes extremely well.
“We’re really working on team concept and I think we played with a lot of emotion and excitement for 4:30 in the afternoon on a hot day.”
The scrimmage gave the hometown fans a chance to see action on the new artificial turf for the first time.
Although there were two interceptions thrown in the game, Bird said positives can be taken away from that, as well.
“Offensively, we want to make good decisions and take care of the ball and on defense, we want to take the ball away,” Bird said. “We’re asking [quarterback] Jesse [Williamson] to do a lot in our offense and make a lot of decisions. There were a lot of positive things today and I think it was a good end.”
