The Cleburne Yellow Jackets have been working all spring for this.
The spring game is finally here and Yellow Jacket head football coach Phil Young said his team is ready for the preseason battle.
“This is the point right now where we get a real strong idea what these guys can do,” Young said. “We have some guys who have looked good this spring. These seniors have had a good, strong spring. I’ve been nicely surprised at the way these guys have matured up through the offseason.
“Taylor Callahan has been good at quarterback and Cody Hicks and Jacob Nelson at running back have all done a nice job.”
Young said the spring game comes with positions still waiting to be filled.
“We’re still wanting some guys to step up and take some jobs to prove that it’s theirs,” Young said. “There are spots that are still open.
“It’s one of those things where we expect them to be seniors and show up every day like they’ve been doing. We don’t expect any more, but we don’t expect any less because they’ve showed us what they can do.”
The freshman team will hit the field at 4:45 p.m. and Young said the game will also serve as a chance for the Yellow Jacket faithful to tour the new multipurpose indoor practice facility.
And there will be something else waiting for those interested, Young said.
“We’re going to let the public walk through it and see what it’s like,” Young said. “And we’re going to have some watermelons, too. We want them to come and have some watermelon and see the new facility.”
