MINERAL WELLS — The Cleburne Lady Jackets and Joshua Lady Owls were well-represented at the 20th annual All-Star Classic on Saturday night at Mineral Wells High School.
Cleburne had a pair of players, Becca Andersona and Secret Holmes, selected for the senior-only game, while Joshua was represented by Katlyn Mary.
The Johnson County players helped lead the East to a 93-77 victory over the West.
Mary led the area’s scorers with 10 points, while Holmes contributed six points despite picking up three first-half fouls.
With the East running a perimeter-oriented offense, Anderson did not find her way into the scorebook in her final high school game, but created several open looks for her teammates by screening defenders or passing to an open shooter on the outside.
The East started the contest quickly, opening as much as a 33-7 lead in the first half before the West rallied to close it to 48-32 at the half.
Holmes had back-to-back layups to give the East an 18-4 lead and Mary scored six points in a row for her team to make it 24-7.
Both players added a pair of free throws later in the first half as the East — featuring players from Springtown, Aledo, Lipan, Meridian, Boyd, Peaster, Granbury Windthorst, Alvord and Walnut Springs — never trailed in the game.
The West cut the deficit to as few as 14 late in the game, but the East ended the contest on a 5-2 run in the final minute to seal the victory.
The East team was coached by Weatherford College’s Reda Petraitis, while the West was led by Grayson County College’s Tommy Collins.
The West roster featured players from Bridgeport, Kopperl, Eastland, Brock, Strawn, Santo, Hamilton, Mineral Wells and Poolville.
All players participating in Saturday night’s events received a trophy to commemorate the night.
At halftime, the players participated in a 3-point shooting contest, where each player on both teams took one shot from three different spots beyond the arc.
Boyd’s Jessie Pittman won the shooting contest as the only player to hit all three shots.
