The Cleburne Lady Jackets’ fell, 2-1, to the Granbury Lady Pirates at Yellow Jacket Stadium on Tuesday night which means their postseason fate will be decided on Senior Night on Friday against the Alvarado Lady Indians.
Cleburne entered the game with a chance to take over third place if the Lady Jackets won by two goals.
Cleburne head coach Floyd Rogers said that was the emphasis of the entire match.
“Our whole thought of the game was to win by two,” Rogers said. “We had a game plan and that was to pressure the sweeper and see if we could get a good counter. That’s what happened with [Erin] Murphy’s goal.
“We gave it about as good a run as possible. It was a good solid effort by both teams and they ended up coming out on top.”
The Lady Jackets took the lead with 25:30 left to play in the first half when Murphy put in the opening goal of the game.
After leading 1-0 at the half, Sarah Mears scored the tying goal with 32:38 remaining.
With time winding down, Erin Bersi put Granbury ahdead with 2:31 left in the game.
The loss sets up a critical final home game with Alvarado on Friday night where Cleburne has a chance to play itself into the postseason with a tie or better against the Lady Indians.
“Both teams fought really well and played really hard,” Rogers said. “If the ball bounces this way and doesn’t bounce that way, it changes the outcome in that kind of a game.”
