Emmanuel Martinez scored three goals as the Cleburne Yellow Jackets picked up a 10-0 victory over Homeschool Academy on Saturday in the Lovejoy Tournament.
Joel Salinas got the scoring under way for Cleburne (1-3) with a goal off an assist by Bobby Vickers.
Salinas assisted on the Jackets’ second goal, scored by Martin Soto, and Martinez scored his first goal off an assist by Halston Spohn to make it 3-0.
Ariel Varela scored a goal off an assist by Salinas, and Martinez’s second goal came off a pass from Spohn and stretched the lead to 5-0.
Soto assisted on a goal by Juan Valle to make it 6-0 and Martinez completed his hat trick by scoring off an assist by Hugo Aparicio.
Mario Gonzalez scored on a penalty kick to make it 8-0.
Michael Turner and Jacob Vasquez were involved in the Jackets’ final two goals.
Turner assisted on a goal by Vasquez that made it 9-0, and Vasquez returned the favor by assisting on Turner’s goal to round out the scoring.
“This week, we’re going to work on fixing some problems we had,” Cleburne head coach Randy Allen said. “We had a hard time clearing the ball from in front of the goal at times.”
In the Jackets’ final game of the tournament on Saturday afternoon, Dallas Thomas Jefferson handed Cleburne a 5-1 loss.
Jefferson took a 1-0 lead by scoring on a penalty kick, but Cleburne knotted the score with a Salinas goal midway through the first half.
After taking a 2-1 lead at the half, Jefferson scored three goals in the final 10 minutes to pull away.
“We had several different people in different places,” Allen said. “We need to get to a point where they are playing with confidence and intensity. What we saw in these early games is we have to work on our passing and handling game speed. We’ve got several guys playing sick, so at times we struggled to play hard.”
