The Joshua Lady Owls improved to 3-0-1 by winning a pair of games on Saturday in the Upper Ninety Kickoff Classic Tournament.
After defeating Fort Worth Polytechnic 6-0 to advance to the third-place game, Joshua and Stephenville battled to a scoreless tie in regulation.
Joshua scored four goals in five attempts in the shootout, with Kaitlin Martindale, Yevette Bessent, Katelynn Segovia and Stephanie Nevels scoring for the Lady Owls.
Jaime Stephens pitched the shut out in goal for Joshua in regulation and Katie Garrett was in the net for the shootout.
“It’s a pretty neat deal,” Joshua head coach Jeff Brooks said. “We didn’t concede a goal in the tournament. We’re pretty happy about that.”
In the early game against Polytechnic, Martindale got the Lady Owls on the board with a goal off an assist by Garrett.
Bessent scored an unassisted goal and Elissa Peckham rounded out the first-half scoring with a goal off an assist by Ashley Atchison.
After the intermission, Garrett scored off an assist by Atchison and Atchison also picked up another assist on Ashley Hamer’s goal that made it 5-0.
Atchison rounded out the scoring for Joshua with a goal on a penalty kick.
Stephens and Kenya Torres split time at goalkeeper during the match to earn the shutout.
