Johnson County soccer teams open the season today in tournaments around the area.
A couple of area teams are involved in the same tournaments and might wind up playing each other over the weekend.
Cleburne is competing in the Upper Ninety “Kickoff Classic” at Birdville High School.
The Lady Jackets are grouped in the green division along with Southwest, Haltom, Arlington Bowie, Prosper, Cedar Hill and Stephenville.
The Cleburne Lady Jackets open the season with a 9:30 a.m. match today against Prosper at the Birdville Fine Arts and Athletic Complex.
Cleburne will return to the field for a 2 p.m. match against Haltom at the same location.
The Lady Jackets will battle former District 8-4A rival Stephenville at 11 a.m. Friday at Birdville High School’s Field 1, and end the day with a 3:30 p.m. match against Arlington Bowie at the Fine Arts Complex.
The top three teams in each division will advance to the championship matches, which are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at both locations.
Burleson and Joshua’s boys teams are playing in the third annual Winterblast Tournament at Birdville High School.
There are 15 boys teams entered into the tournament.
Joshua is competing in the men’s gold division along with Haltom, Western Hills, Eatern Hills, Diamond Hill, North Crowley and Denison.
The Owls open tournament play at 8 p.m. tonight against Haltom on Field 1.
Joshua plays a pair of games on Friday, opening with a 9:30 a.m. contest against Eastern Hills on Field 1, followed by a 6:30 p.m. match against Western Hills at the Fine Arts and Athletic Complex.
Burleson was placed in the men’s green division along with Birdville, Trimble Tech, Carter-Riverside, Decatur, Paschal, Richland and Boswell.
Burleson opens tournament play against Trimble Tech at 2 p.m. today on Field 1.
The Elks face Carter-Riverside at 8 a.m. Friday at the Birdville Fine Arts and Athletic Complex and close the first round with a 3:30 p.m. match against Birdville at the Fine Arts and Athletic Complex.
The top three boys and girls teams in each pool advance to Saturday’s championship round, which begins at 5 p.m. Matches will be held at both locations.

It was Senior Night on Tuesday at Yellow Jacket Gym as the Cleburne Lady Jackets closed out the regular season against Joshua with a chance to avenge an earlier District 7-4A loss at Joshua High School.
